2-D and 3-D Branding Design

A page dedicated to keeping visitors up-to-date on my comings and goings, my trials and tribulations, anything that comes to mind to me on a particular day.  Do not expect posts every day or even every week or every month.  I post when I feel I have something to say, and luckily for you, I am not the chatty type.

You are welcome to browse all of my blog posts and comment where you like, I only ask that criticisms be constructive and that you are considerate with language and subject-matter.  Besides that, you are welcome to this entire page and its contents!

Tides of Busy and Desperate for Work

It's interesting how quickly things change, yet also seem to change painfully slowly at the same time.  I am getting more comfortable working as a freelance designer, and have built up a decent network of clients that have been providing a steady stream of work for me these past few months.  It helps that I have an account on Upwork.com (an online freelance networking site) where I can have access to commissions from clients across the globe.

There are times when t...

The Graduate Experience: Penniless Anyone?

Posted by Kate E Durr on October 28, 2015 at 4:05 PM Comments comments (0)

I haven't posted much recently, because there hasn't been much to tell (that, and the blog application is very cumbersome to use).  Besides my receiving my diploma in the mail, receiving correspondence from my school, learning about and dealing with my new crippling student debt, and worrying about how I could really step into the industry, there has not really been anything significant to note.

My graduation was a quiet one.  Being enrolled at an online school has...

A Few Months Left, and So Much to Work Through

Posted by Kate E Durr on May 7, 2015 at 12:20 AM Comments comments (3)

I cannot believe I am almost finished with my experience at Sanford-Brown. With only two terms left (that’s ten weeks for those of you who have never taken an accelerated program before), I have a lot to wrap-up, think about, organize, and complete before my time is up. While I know my learning career is just beginning here (it would be conceited of me to say it will ever end), this is still the closing of a very significant chapter of my life. I don’t want to go into the detai...

Dealing with and Bouncing Back from Conflict

Posted by Kate E Durr on January 26, 2015 at 7:00 PM Comments comments (0)

Life exists to be experienced, and an integral part of that experience is to learn from it. No one has it easy, and claiming that you have might be more like denial than being humble. Difficult experiences help us get through new ones, and for the case of this past semester, my acquaintance dealing with conflict helped me get through a few spots that a few of my colleagues admitted would have seriously dampened their spirits.

I’m not someone that enjoys conflict, and...

Turning Passion into Informed Discussion and Planning

It sure has been a while, and I can assure you that this post is just as pointless as the others, although slightly interesting and personal.  The following was posted during a discussion about career passion in the game industry.  I finally had the gall to be honest with myself.  If you would like to learn a bit about a currently unorthodox yet skyrocketing video game career path, then stick around.

After thinking about this fairly deeply for a long time...

Thinking About Level Design: "The Stanley Parable"

Posted by Kate E Durr on July 27, 2014 at 8:30 PM Comments comments (0)

This is another posting from one of my assignments where I was required to take a look at and reflect on the first level of a game of my choice.  I decided to talk about The Stanley Parable, even though the game is not broken up into different levels in the traditional sense.  I hope you appreciate this commentary and take note that it was originally written as a forum post and meant to be concise.  Some detail...

Animation and 3-D Modeling Crash Course

Tomorrow I am helping my brother move into his new apartment.  I’ll be busy, and I’m excited to help, but his moving makes me think about just how much I need to move, myself.  It’s a frustrating circumstance that I just have to live with as I work on my school work and improve my skills.  After all, I can’t hope to deserve a job until I know what precisely I am doing.

With that being said, I have been working with Adobe F...

Below Zero Degrees

It has definitely been a while. First of all, I want to say I had an enjoyable holiday, although I spent a great deal working on what I had to do rather than what I wanted to do. My keeping busy frustrated my family members and visiting friends who wanted to see me, for sure, but luckily I was able to visit with everyone and relax enough to prepare for this current school term.

Speaking of this term, I have another intensive set of classes. One focusing on Adobe Action S...
